40 DAYS FOR LIFE campaign runs from February 22nd until April 1st. It is the largest ever international pro-life event. For 40 days we gather to pray outside the Calthorpe Abortion Clinic in Birmingham. We are not there to judge, we are there to pray peacefully to bring an end to the tragedy of abortion in England. Please go to our website www.40daysforlife.com/birmingham-uk and sign up to our "Vigil Schedule" or call Isabel on 07773501721. YOU can help save lives!
WELCOME to Deacon Paweł (Paul) Bielak OSPPE who will be with us for pastoral practice until 6th May, 2012.
THE HOLY SEASON OF LENT is a time for meditation and reflection preparing for the Easter Mystery. The liturgy is quietened: we do not say or sing the ‘Glory to God' nor the ‘Alleluia': these we ‘save up' to sing with all the more joy at Easter. The Mass vestments and the tabernacle curtains are now purple, but it is the Royal Purple of Kings. No flowers adorn the altar: the organ is restrained, and is used only to accompany singing.
EXTRAORDINARY MINISTERS OF HOLY COMMUNION please note that if you wish to be an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion you are asked to attend a Lenten recollection and talk.
We will be holding these sessions jointly with the EMHC's from St. Teresa's, St. Joseph's, Our Lady of Perpetual Succour, and SS Peter & Paul's Parishes at our Church on Tuesday 20th March (7.00 - 9.30 p.m.) and Saturday 24th March (11.30a.m. - 2.30 p.m.); EMHC's should attend one of these sessions, which will include a Holy Hour in church, and a talk and discussion in the church hall. (Those attending the Saturday session should bring a packed lunch). Further details will be available nearer the time.
STATIONS OF THE CROSS: will be recited throughout Lent at 11.30am on Friday and at 9.00am & 6.00pm on Saturday.
ASH WEDNESDAY is a day of FASTING AND ABSTINENCE from meat. The law of FASTING applies to all who have reached their majority (that is 18 years of age) until their 59th birthday. ABSTINENCE from meat is binding on all who have reached the age of 14.
PRAYER FROM ASH WEDNESDAY: Lord, bless these ashes by which we show that we are dust. Pardon our sins and keep us faithful to the discipline of Lent, for you do not want sinners to die, but to live with the risen Christ, who reigns with you for ever. Amen
