IF YOU WISH TO MAKE DONATION for flowers, there are envelopes at the back of the Church. Unfortunately, the price of flowers has doubled in price, so any donation will be gratefully received.

If you notice someone you know from the church who has not been at Mass recently, please let us know.
FEASTS OF THE WEEK
SAINT NICHOLAS OWEN (Monday) was a Jesuit lay-brother who was incredibly skilful in making hiding-places in Elizabethan houses: these were ‘priests' holes' where hunted priest could be hidden from their pursuers, since merely being a priest meant a terrible death if you were caught. St Nicholas had to work in secret, often at night, making these refuges - some are in our diocese. Nicholas was caught while working in a house where several priests were already hiding. Nicholas bravely gave himself up to distract attention from the priests. This worked: the priests were safe, but Nicholas was carried off to the Tower of London, where he was tortured so horribly that he died under this on 2nd March 1606. In spite of his agony, he gave no-one away. After his death, the Superior of the English Jesuits wrote: "I verily think no man can be said to have done more good of all those who laboured in the English vineyard. He was the immediate cause of saving the lives of hundreds of persons".
SAINTS TIMOTHY & TITUS (Thursday) St Timothy was born in Lyconia, part of present-day Turkey. His father was a Gentile, but his mother was Jewish, and she became a Christian. Timothy studied the Scriptures from an early age, so with his Jewish background and firm Christian faith he was a great support for St Paul in many of his journeys. He was used on many occasions to prepare communities for a visit from St Paul, or to deal with erroneous teachings that had arisen in various places. St Paul had a great affection for him, and regarded him as his dearest son. Timothy was martyred by a procession of pagans with whom he remonstrated for carrying idols. His martyrdom took place on 22nd January 97AD. St Titus was born a gentile, but was converted to Christianity by St Paul himself. He became St Paul's secretary, and, like Timothy, he was sent to sort our problems. St Paul's Letter to Titus summarises the duties of a bishop. Titus was sent to Crete as their bishop, where he died at an advanced age - he was not martyred. The Cretans have a great devotion to St Titus as their first bishop.
